2019 Riesling – Purple Bike

About the wine:

Boom!  What just hit me?  Harvested from a cool single vineyard on a Peachland hillside, this Riesling carries vibrant acidity (that was the boom) that you would expect from a cool climate, but has a perfect balance of sweetness.  On the palate, you will enjoy green apples, “Jolly Rancher apple”, lime zest, honey and hints of kerosene (yes, this is a GOOD thing!).  Although this wine is perfect on its own, enjoy this wine with sharp cheeses, smoky barbequed foods or bratwurst and sauerkraut with stony Dijon mustard (a plug for its German heritage).

Technical stats:

Acid:  8.3 g/L
pH: 2.93
Residual Sugar: 29.8 g/L
Alcohol: 9.6%
Production: 124 cases
Grape variety:  Riesling
Vineyard Location: Peachland
Harvested: Oct 25, 2019
Bottled:  May 3, 2020
Winemaking: The grapes were hand harvested and then gently whole cluster pressed.  The juice was chilled and after settling for 72 hours, racked from solids.  Inoculated with a selected yeast strain, the fermentation was kept cool (12-16°C) and at the ideal sugar acid balance, the fermentation was terminated by chilling.  The wine was stabilized and crossflow filtered before bottling in early May 2020.
